Theology Notes for the Day..... God's Eternality

Hey Everybody!
I am going to start posting some of the notes/thoughts based on the speech cards I wrote while I was in Apologetics.
I may add in my personal thoughts and open it up for discussion. I think it would be good for refreshing my memory, and creating a round table for honest talk.
Today's message is on God's Eternality.
If you want to discuss this subject, please feel free to by posting comments either below or on this post on Google +. Thanks!
God's Eternality
"I AM THAT I AM." These words were spoken by God to Moses in the desert when Moses asked God what he should say to the Pharoh of Egypt. With those simple words, God was telling Moses and all of the world that He was everything. The first word and the last word. Psalm 90:2 says that, "Before the mountains were born or You brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God." This verse really is a great example of how solidly lasting God is as an ever-present existence. The world may change, the universe turn in irregular motion, God is and always will be.
And now let's begin discussing the topic for today: the Eternality of God.
I will be making two main points today concerning this topic.
1) God is eternal in His Existence.
2) God is eternal in his Being. And now let's begin discussing the topic for today: the Eternality of God.
I will be making two main points today concerning this topic.
1) God is eternal in His Existence.
Webster's 1828 Dictionary defines the word "Eternal" to mean; "Without beginning or end of existence. Everlasting; endless; immortal."
Point One: God is Eternal in His Existence.
The eternal God of the Bible has always existed and will continue to exist in the future.
As"El Olam," He is known as the Everlasting God. The Hebrew word "Olam" means "forever, perpetual, old, ancient" implying that there is an infinite future and past. God has existed before everything, and will continue to be.
This aspect of God's character and person can be confusing considering the aspect of His being existing always, and having no beginning. I like to think of this as a Möbius strip. This little piece of paper is twisted in such a way that it doesn't start and end anywhere or even at the same spot. It is a continual piece and often used as an example of infinity or eternality much as a wedding ring is.
Psalm 90:2 "From everlasting to everlasting, You are God." God is eternal. His existence had no beginning and will have no ending. He always was, always is and always will be. God has never had a beginning, and He will continue to exist for years to come.
A.W. Tozer once remarked..."God is the Great I Am, not the Great I Was!" God will always exist.
Charles Spurgeon once said, "God's nature is without beginning and without end, free from all succession of time. God dwells in eternity. Eternity is not just "extended time" but rather is existence above and apart from time. God contains in Himself the cause of time! Time has no control over God and He does not have to work within the structures of time unless He so pleases. Being eternal, He is free to bestow eternality on His creation in His good pleasure. All of God's attributes bask in His eternality. Since eternity neither wears out nor runs out, neither do His attributes." (Psalm 102:12 "But You, O Lord, abide forever and Your name to all generations." Isaiah 40:28 "Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired.")
Point Two: God is eternal in His Being.
Hebrews 1:10-11 "You, Lord, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish but you remain.; and they will all grow old like a garment; like a cloak you will fold them up, and they will changed. But you are the same, and your years will not fail." The principles of the laws of nature, the beginning of time, and the first existence of this world --- all are results of God, the Creator who possess never-ending wisdom and power.
Psalm 102:25-27 "You laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you will endure; yes, they will all grow old like a garment; like a cloak you will change them, and they will be changed. But you are the same, and your years will have no end."
Finishing Note:
I am so glad that God is eternal, and that He will always exist. It comforts me to know that no matter what happens God is there. Like a circle He continues on, faithful and steadfast, and He will never die. He is so great and mighty, and He deserves our ultimate praise and worship. Just as when Moses stood before the burning bush, awaiting the words of God, and wondering what to do; feeling so small and unsure, I must have been the most relieving and comforting words for him to hear God say, " I AM THAT I AM." God is eternity and He is forever.
Well --- I hope this was as helpful and easy to understand as I tried to make it. I really enjoy going back through my old Apologetics cards and rewriting them in simpler language.
Thanks for your support and I am looking forward to answering any questions or simply discussing these simple topics!
Chao for now,
- Lindsay
