"What Would Jesus Do?" Challenge: Day Two
Dear Readers,
Well, this is day two and I still need to remind myself to consider what Jesus would do in my place.
I have decided to put away any books that would distract me from this as well. One of the major difficulties of being a christian with standards and goals is that Satan tries so hard to distract you. Wherever you go, (this is more evident if you live near or in the city) the world is flashing lights all around in an attempt to sidetrack you from your goals. Satan wants to do this so that you will forget, or compromise, or eventually fall away from your former decisions and standards. Pretty soon, there are arrayed before us so many flashing lights, sounds, and sights, that we start to appear like a deer encountering a car's headlights! Our eyes are wide open and we tend to just go blank like an overrun computer's screen. We cannot let this happen.
What we tend to do in handling things ourselves, is to vainly slap our faces or shake our heads to focus on our path. We eventually have to do this over and over, but it never quite cuts it enough.
This is where prayer comes in. As humans, we can't handle the world by ourselves! We need God's assistance in life. We will often face what Joyce Meyers calls "the battlefield of the mind," and then ensues the hard struggle to 'stay on the path.' We need to firmly hold on to God's hand, and trust Him to guide us through the world's distractions and temptations. We can't just trust ourselves alone to win this warfare for our attention. To be human is to be vulnerable. To have God with you is the only thing that will make you strong.
To put it in a nutshell....
Satan wants our attention, so he will distract using whatever means possible: literature, (as we discussed yesterday) movies, business in general, music, etc..
Because we are vulnerable to these distractions, we need to call out to God's Holy Spirit to guide us through so we can focus on the path. In my case, on doing what Jesus would do in my place.
I know that this is a lot, but it's what has been on my mind today. My word of encouragement to you is;
Don't let distraction dupe you! Turn your eyes away from those headlights, hold on to God's guidance, pray, pray, pray, and your flash drive should keep on running great!
Thanks for the stroll...
